About Martin

Hi I’m Martin Oguzie. I’m a UK Optometrist, and I began my career all the way back in 2001.

This site is where my education services and thinking about vision come together, so I’m glad to share what I’m doing here with you.

I’ve worked across a wide range of optometry settings in the UK, and that breadth has shaped how I practise and work today: practical, evidence-led, and grounded in real-world application.

My clinical and educational interests include:

• Founder of “Martin The Optometrist” YouTube Channel - Providing eye & sight related educational content

• Dry eye management - A silent cause of misery for so many at home and work

• Low vision and visual ageing — I’m particularly interested in premature eye ageing resilience

• Eye floater education — As an eye floater sufferer myself, I get joy from helping people understand eye floaters and how to manage them

• Optimising how we use our sight productively — Born out of my own needs, I developed the Productive Seeing Methodology

Why my work evolved into Productive Seeing

Alongside clinical practice, I was so busy… a married father of 3 kids, running businesses, creating, thinking, and often working with cognitive overload. Like many people, I have been deep in personal development and productivity strategies to try and get help, but still found that attention, motivation and follow-through weren’t always there when I needed them.

In 2021 I started to get the seed of an idea about how sight payed a part in the things that I see were impacting my mood, motivation, distraction and attainment. What became clear was that the challenge many of us face, wasn’t a lack of discipline or effort, it was often sight-driven cognitive stress and overwhelm that often goes undetected because we blame our issues on everything else. Our visual system feeds information to the brain and this information is given priority by the brain in order to regulate the nervous system and our actions.

As an optometrist, that insight was impossible to ignore. To me Productive Seeing is an expansion of my work rather than a departure. It’s simply following sights full impact beyond the eye, into the brain, the nervous system, and ultimately into the behaviours and outputs it influences.

The Productive Seeing Method

This resulted in me developing what I call the Productive Seeing Method (PSM).

PSM is not a health programme.

At its core, PSM is about understanding sight as a primary input to the brain.

How we see influences how the brain processes information, regulates the nervous system, and prepares us to act.

PSM sits at the intersection of:

• Optometry - Visual Perception, Visual ergonomics

• Neuroscience - Autonomic nervous system, Visual neuroscience

• Productivity - Goals, attainment

It addresses, what I call cognitive productivity the internal readiness that determines whether functional productivity methods (planning, execution, systems) actually work.

In simple terms:

PSM helps you become cognitively ready before you sit down to do your best work.

What PSM helps with

By using sight intentionally to regulate the nervous system via the brain, PSM helps:

Reduce background cognitive and mental strain

Improve focus and resistance to distraction

Increase mood, motivation, and follow-through

Create the conditions for deep, effective work

Who this work is for

For individuals, PSM helps you:

Set powerful goals

Show up for work mentally ready rather than already depleted

Use your visual system to support attention

Reduce distraction and internal friction

Get more value from the productivity tools you already use

For team leaders and organisations, I work with companies to:

Set powerful shared goals (for projects or campaigns)

Address hidden, sight-driven cognitive strain in modern work environments

Improve attention, clarity, and sustainable performance

Reduce distraction and cognitive overload at a systems level

Create attention restoration zones for team members

My aim is not to replace productivity strategies — but to make them work.
